OS-CON and POSCAP capacitors
OS-CON and POSCAP capacitors are aluminum electrolytic and tantulum capacitors, respectively, with solid electrolyte. The type of solid electrolyte can be either an organic semiconductor or a conductive polymer. This second compound differs from the first in its higher conductance and better temperature behaviour.
The main advantages of OS-CON and POSCAP over aluminum electrolytic and tantalum liquid electrolyte capacitors lies in:
- Better conductivity: lower ESR.
- Much better behaviour at lower temperatures.
- Higher reliability, specially at high temperatures.
Rated voltage
The rated voltage of the capacitor specifies the maximum working voltage of it. It is advisable that the nominal working voltage is 80% to 90% of the rated value for POSCAPs and 80% for OS-CONs so as to been able to work without damage in widest set of highest temperatures
Allowable ripple current
It specifies the maximum current that can be drained off the capacitor without producing loss of reliability.
Leakage current
Leakage current can increase if stored for long periods of time. In that case, it should be applied the rated voltage at higher temperature and discharging under a not strong load.
