Outsourcing of the development of Production Test Systems
To fabricate a series of cards, an automated production test system (PTS) is needed. On this system, every produced card will be tested for assembly and soldering problems. Such a PTS is for example a PC with a SPEC FMC carrier on which the FMC card that is fabricated is tested. This FMC card typically needs to be connected to external logic to test the external connectors.
Example short Technical Specification for the development of a Production Test System
A very short technical specification may be good enough for the
development of a Production Test System.
Such a concise specification is likely only possible when a tight
contact is kept between the responsible for the project and the company
developing the test system.
We believe that as follow-up (phone calls, review, testing) takes about
10% of the time that the company spends to develop the PTS. E.g., half a
day follow up for each week of work by the company.
Please contact Erik van der Bij, CERN for details about this template.
Documentation required on delivery
Based on the technical specification that we use for Open Hardware cards, we expect a number of items with a delivery.
- PTS software for the card, written in Python
- VHDL and compiled gateware for the PTS
- User guide and 1-page operator guide
- A list of all connections that are not covered by the PTS and reason why
- The PTS hardware (e.g. PC and other equipment) is not part of the supply
Typical percentage of time spent
Date | Project | Contractor | Guidance and verification time |
---|---|---|---|
Q1 2016 | FMC_DDS PTS | 100% | 13% |
Q2 2016 | MasterFIP PTS | 100% | 20% |
