added by Erik van der Bij on 2011-02-28 10:44:07.420384
CERN's PFC card and the Gennum to Wishbone core is featured on Gennum's GN4124 Design blog
03-02-2011: First DMA transfer to/from DDR3
added by Anonymous on 2011-02-03 11:33:47.246787
A first DMA transfer to the PFC DDR3 and back to the host has been done
this morning.
The DDR3 interface seems to work well, but more exhaustive test of the
DDR3 interface are still to be done.
10-12-2010: PCIe communication to Wishbone registers working
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-12-13 15:36:56.336522
The communication chain of writing and reading Wishbone registers inside the Xilinx via the Gennum PCIe bus interface is working.
12-11-2010: Board inserted and recognised by PC bios.
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-11-15 09:01:15.168292
Thanks everybody for your support, and specially Tim from Gennum for his tips. The GN4124 is now listed under the PCI modules. We have no problems accessing the configuration space, everything seems to be running really smoothly. Next step is to program the GN4124 flash and gain communication the Spartan6.
11-11-2010: First 3 prototypes powered up!!
added by Pablo Alvarez on 2010-11-11 17:39:06.090672
The first 3 prototype arrived this afternoon from the assembly office. The boards powered up correctly from a desktop power supply. QDRII, Spartan6 and GN4124 were easily recognized by impact running on a Windows machine. The linux version of impact misteriously refused to detect the chain. To be continued....
04-11-2010: Front-panels will arrive by end of year
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-11-04 17:04:40.520267
The PCI Express front-panels will be shipped from the US on 15 December.
03-11-2010: First 3 prototypes expected by 15th November
added by Pablo Alvarez on 2010-11-03 16:35:37.378648
The component assembly of 2 Standard-Negative-PFC and 1 Standard-PFC will start tomorrow 4th November. The estimated delivery delay is aproximately 1 week.
23-09-2010: Front-panel ordered
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-09-23 14:56:51.255349
The PCIe front-panel with the cut-out for the FMC front (and fibre-optic connector) has been ordered. It will be a one-piece design. Another, more conventional 3-piece design will also be ordered soon.
16-09-2010: Requested production of PCBs.
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-09-16 10:57:18.668003
The PCB layout of the FMC PCIe carrier has been finalised and the production of four PCBs has been requested. Three of them will be assembled and one will be kept empty for being able to measure for connectivity, if needed.
28-05-2010: First component placement
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-05-31 08:59:23.789764
A first idea of how the board will look like can be seen from the image of the component placement (see the wiki page). The board will be implemented as a full-size (long) PCIe card that will ease routing. As the usage will be in industrial PICMG PCs, size is not a problem.
26-05-2010: Gennum engineer will review schematics
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-05-26 11:46:49.271966
The schematics review is planned to be held on 2 June. Gennum will also review the schematics. Having this company, that designed the PCI Express interface chip that we use on the board, will definitively help to make a first-class open hardware design!
18-05-2010: Schematics finished, transfered to design office
added by Erik van der Bij on 2010-05-19 11:11:41.948487
The schematics have been finalised and have been given to the design office for the starting of the PCB layout. Also the mechanics of the front-panel has been designed: one FMC module, one fibre-optic transceiver and one LED just fit on it.
