We introduced the diagnostic macros described above at the beginning
of March 2013. Earlier code used a less-structured approach, which is
still used in parts of the code and is being slowly phased away.
As of May 2013 we still have a pair of uses of @t{PP_PRINTF},
but we'll kill them soon. To help our users not add such calls,
we are not documenting it any more.
