LHC Instability Trigger Distribution project (LIST)
Introduction
The purpose of the LIST is to receive a trigger from a “cloud” of devices and distribute it to all relevant devices to freeze their acquisition buffers upon detection of the onset of an instability, with low and fixed latency. The LIST will be also used to distribute triggers between the early instability detectors and the actuators preventing instability growth (e.g. the Transverse Damper - ADT).
The goal of the LIST project is to develop a network for transporting trigger pulses between equipment involved in the LHC beam instability diagnostics. The instability diagnostics system currently being designed at CERN will provide wideband acquisition of beam pickup signals, so that forming of the instabilities can be detected and studied offline.
The hardware of the LIST nodes is based on the
SVEC FMC carrier equipped with a
FMC TDC mezzanine and a
Fine Delay
mezzanine.
The gateware of it is based on a 2-core White Rabbit Node Core -
WRNC.
