Description
The purpose of Absolute Calibration is to obtain the specified WR timing accuracy while being able to exchange devices from different designers/vendors etc. without the need for a re-calibration. For the WRITE project the aim is to demonstrate this. Electrical-Electrical (EE) and Electrical-Optical (EO) calibration are examined separate to focus on each individual calibration method and to keep complexity as small as possible.
Electrical-Electrical (EE)
The calibration plan is to achieve specified WR timing accuracy by connecting two different WR devices (SPEC and SPEC7) which are calibrated at three different sites (Nikhef, VTT and NPL). Calibrated devices will be connected using a Direct Attach Copper (DAC) cable for which the electrical delays are known since the DAC-cable is calibrated (see DAC-Cable calibration report).
Inter-comparison results are reported in the arXiv.org paper: "First electrical White Rabbit absolute calibration inter-comparison" and is available under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
Electrical-Optical (EO)
The calibration plan is to exchange the Electrical-Optical Reference receivers that where calibrated with different setups at VTT and Nikhef and verify each-others results.
